Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026 Gets Underway With Cars, F1 and Future Technology

The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed has officially opened, kicking off four days of motorsport, car launches, technology showcases and fan experiences at Goodwood House in West Sussex. The event runs from 9 to 12 July 2026 and draws together leading names from motorsport, road car manufacturing, engineering and future technology. Singer Takes Centre Stage at Opening

One of the standout moments of Thursday's opening day was the reveal of the 2026 Central Feature, dedicated to Singer Vehicle Design. Singer, renowned for its meticulous reimagining of the Porsche 911, is the celebrated marque of this year's Festival.

The Central Feature in front of Goodwood House displays three Singer models as part of a new sculpture by Gerry Judah. Singer's stand features five cars in total, including the public debut of the first ever slantnose Singer. The Hill was opened by the Duke of Richmond and Singer's Chief Strategy Officer Mazen Fawaz, driving a 1991 DLS Turbo Reimagined by Singer.

Future Lab Pushes Technology to the Forefront

The FOS Future Lab presented by Randox is one of the most compelling areas of this year's Festival for technology enthusiasts. Built around four themes, New Frontiers, Unseen Worlds, Intelligent Systems and Extending Reality, the showcase brings together some of the most forward-thinking ideas in science and mobility.

Highlights include OLO Robotics, a Sheffield startup demonstrating how robots can be programmed via a web browser using plain English. Also featured are the National Quantum Computing Centre, TouchLab's haptic glove and electronic skin technology, Emotiv's Brain Art experience and Sony XYN for spatial content creation. The Future Lab cements Goodwood's position as more than a traditional motorsport event, connecting the automotive world with AI, robotics, space exploration and quantum computing.

Formula 1 Sets the Tone

Formula 1 action began in earnest on Thursday. Alpine's Pierre Gasly drove the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix-winning Lotus E20 to open the F1 programme. McLaren began its four-day celebration with reserve driver Leonardo Fornaroli at the wheel of the 2023 MCL60. Cars from Aston Martin, Ferrari and Williams also featured in the Thursday schedule.

The newly launched FOS Fan Zone made a strong debut on its first day. Goodwood confirmed that the zone drew large crowds, with appearances from drift stars, Ducati legends and Pierre Gasly. A surprise appearance from Kimi Antonelli added further excitement for fans.

Goodwood Announces Expansion to the United States

Beyond the track action, Goodwood made a significant announcement. The Goodwood Road Racing Club is expanding to the United States under the banner of GRRC of America. The new venture is set to launch in California in 2027, with its first headline event planned for Willow Springs in 2028.

Three founding patrons have been confirmed: Sir Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti and Richard Petty. The move signals Goodwood's ambition to take its culture, community and heritage brand to an international audience.

A Festival That Goes Beyond Cars

Goodwood's official photo roundup described the opening day as a spectacular start, with action on the Forest Rally Stage, the Cartier Style et Luxe concours and the Hill busy with cars, bikes and fans.
