Evans holds a 17-point lead over Finland's Sami Pajari, who sits second with 213 points. Sweden's Oliver Solberg is third on 209 points, 21 adrift of the leader. A maximum of 35 points are available in Sardinia: 25 for victory, 5 for the Super Sunday stage and 5 for the Wolf Power Stage.

Evans needs just 19 points to become world champion regardless of what his rivals do. A rally win alone is enough. He does not need to count points or wait on results from others. Second place combined with at least two bonus points also seals the deal. The equation becomes complicated only if Evans finishes sixth or lower.

Pajari and Solberg Must Attack

Pajari cannot afford a conservative approach. The Finn, who won three rallies this season in Estonia, Finland and Paraguay, must outscore Evans by at least 18 points to take the title on points alone. If Pajari sweeps all 35 points and Evans scores exactly 18, both finish on 248. The tiebreaker is number of victories. Pajari would then hold four wins to Evans's two, making the Finn champion.

Solberg faces the steepest climb. The Swede must outscore Evans by 22 points and Pajari by five. Realistically, he needs a perfect weekend and significant trouble for the leader. A Sardinia victory would be his third of the season. If Evans finishes on 15 points in that scenario, both end on 244, and Solberg's superior win tally would hand him the title.
